VFX Supervision · Compositing

Visual effects that blend CG, design, and live-action photography.

Animation

At CalArts, I gained a foundational education in animation, and the history of the medium, from Disney animators, modelers, and riggers.

  • Autodesk Maya
  • Blender
  • Houdini

Compositing

  • Integrated 3D renders with live-action plates using multi-pass workflows
  • Matched lighting, shadows, and color to unify CG assets with practical photography
  • Adobe After Effects

Motion Graphics

  • I design text and graphic elements in Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop
  • Those designs come to life in Adobe After Effects through animation and timing
  • I then integrate motion graphics into live-action shots when the project calls for it

Shot Breakdown

Green screen plate

This is the original green-screen plate alongside the completed final shot.

This sequence began with a green-screen plate of the protagonist, captured with controlled key lighting and practical wind elements to integrate naturally with the intended environment.

  • To build the digital environment, I reconstructed the shot in Blender, matching the live-action camera's focal length, sensor size, and lens characteristics to ensure parallax and spatial continuity between the plate and the CG elements.
  • For the interactive movement in the scene, I generated a cloth simulation on a stand-in model proportioned to the actor. This allowed the simulated fabric to react believably to the same wind direction and intensity present during production.
  • With the 3D renders completed, I transitioned into Adobe After Effects for compositing. There, I tracked the live-action plate, integrated the CG simulation, refined the edges and lighting interactions, and executed the final color treatment to align with the director's stylistic intent.
